Deaf Awareness Presentation by Shafa Farooq

On Thursday 18th June, Tareq Ahmed and I went back to our old primary school, Roding, to talk about our life as hearing impaired students at Caterham. We had prepared and practised our presentation as part of speech and language therapy but I still felt apprehensive. Happily, everything went well. At rst we gave our presentation to class 5C, which had 3 hearing impaired students present. Then we went to another class, many of the children asked questions, which was good. I felt glad that I could answer their questions clearly. One question they asked was “ How do you feel about being deaf ?” My answer was: I am proud to be deaf because I am God’s creation and I respect his creation. I am myself and I was born deaf. I am proud because I have gone through a lot and been successful and I hope I will continue to do well in the future. After this we spoke to year 6 students in the hall. It went well and the pupils seemed to find it interesting; there was lots of applause and cheering! It was a brilliant experience  Written by Shafa Farooq

A level Computing students visit Morgan Stanley bank in Canary Wharf

18 of our 6th form computing students had an opportunity to visit Morgan Stanley bank in January. They had many enjoyable presentations rstly about the work of an investment bank and also on issues to do with the programming work at the bank and some of the mathematical methods used by these programmers as well as the use of particular computational methods. Our students were able to visit both the trading oor and their top- oor restaurant with excellent views across the City. All of the students agreed that the visit was an excellent educational opportunity for them and many had a chance to think about possible university study and possible future careers as well as a chance to ask questions to the programmers and mathematicians who gave up their time to do these presentations.   It was quite interesting to see the roles different programmers played inside the nancial environment and the problems they faced when using computer systems to forecast the the possible outcomes of the stock market. The food was nice too. — Tochi Obudulu (Year 12)
