Caterham High is a Good school. Ofsted judge the school to be Good in all areas in June 2022. We are highly aspirational for ALL our students and young people with a commitment to high standards in all areas of school life, and success for each individual child. We pride ourselves on enabling ALL children to step forward in their education and pathways so that they will leave school for successful academic, vocational or work place futures.

Central to our success has been creating a culture of high aspiration and expectation among students as well as a culture and ethos centred around kindness, inclusivity and good relationships. The school prides itself on creating a warm, highly inclusive and welcoming learning environment, underpinned by strong relationships between young people and staff, where students reach their potential and flourish. All our students are valued.

Our subject specialist staff teach across a wide range of curriculum subjects with a good range of choices available at both GCSE and A Levels. We also offer vocational qualifications at GCSE and in the 6th Form. The latest Ofsted report from February 2022 describes Caterham High as wanting to "provide a high-quality education for all pupils" within a "well ordered curriculum" where staff "encourage pupils to believe in themselves and persevere in pursuit of their ambitions". Ofsted noted that pupils "value the help they get from their teachers". Our students are described as conducting themselves in a "calm and orderly manner", and behaving well in lessons.

We constantly strive to improve provision. Ofsted noted that "pupils build up knowledge, understanding and skills as they progress through the school." We have a new "Pathway Curriculum" for students who need additional help on entry to the school and ambitious plans for More Able students. We deliver Study Skills and Revision Skills to our GCSE students to prepare them well for exams. We have reading and writing programmes to support literacy development for all students and bespoke Maths intervention. As a consequence, our progress in Maths and English GCSEs continues to improve.

The school also has a wide range of facilities, including in the creative arts (Drama, Music, Art), a school library, PE and sport, and Design and Technology as well as our own swimming pool. We have a rolling refurbishment programme that includes our Science Laboratories. Our IT provision is good.

o help Year 7 students settle in they have their own play area to make them feel welcome. We also have staff supervised staggered lunch times.

We run extracurricular clubs and activities (for example cookery, football, judo, chess, drama, choir and gaming) and have popular “Activities Days” to stimulate creativity, widen students’ imaginative experiences and build personal skills. Enrichment time is built into the Year 7 & 8 school day.

We have very strong pastoral, welfare and inclusion care for our students. In 2024 we were awarded the Gold Standard for Leadership in Safeguarding - the only secondary school in the country to be awarded directly to the Gold Standard.

As a smaller secondary school (six forms of entry), we know our students very well. Students describe this school as a "family" and we work hard together with children and young people to create a safe, harmonious and celebratory community where students can thrive.
